Project Description
Because of their considerable length and subsequent expected expansion and contraction, skylights at St. Louis' International Airport are divided into sections by structural expansion joints. These joints must be watertight. The sealant material must handle tight radii, variation in joint-gaps from 2 to 4 inches and must anchor without drilling into the substrates. Thermal insulation, the ability to handle movement and aesthetic integration are additional requirements. A preformed, silicone/impregnated-foam, hybrid sealant uniquely handles all of these challenges. Tight radii are handled by the materials flexibility, non-invasive anchoring ensures that mullions are not drilled into, while color selection makes the seal appear an integral part of the skylight system.
