Alkek Tower: Benefits of Pedestrian Traffic Coating on an Interior Surface

Monroe Dunaway Anderson (MD Anderson) created the Anderson Foundation before his death in the late 1930s. A couple years after his death, the Anderson Foundation and the State of Texas agreed to fund a new cancer hospital and research center that would be located in Houston, Texas, and named after Anderson. The MD Anderson hospital was started in the mid 50s and has became one of the premier cancer care institutions throughout the world.

Since the early 2000s, MD Anderson has experienced unprecedented growth with limited space to increase the number of patient beds and operating rooms. In 2010, the hospital received a 12-story vertical expansion on top of the existing 12-story hospital. This addition is known as the Alkek tower, funded by the Albert and Margaret Alkek Foundation. Today, this hospital stands at 24-stories tall and is a massive one million square feet. MD Anderson provides care to over 115,000 patients yearly and has over 19,000 employees, making it the world’s largest medical campus.
